In September 2022, we changed our reporting to offer better clarity to parents and students.
The following diagram represents expected student progress paths through Key Stage 3 and 4.
Although we are using linear flight paths to track progress, there will be times when your child is slightly below the flight path and at other times slightly above. This is still 'expected progress'. Students who are not on track are not failing and there is not an immediate cause for concern, but it may indicate that your child may need extra support in that subject area.
Intervention will be put in place for students who remain below the flight path for a sustained period of time. It is important to understand that your child’s attainment may move up or down at each attainment tracker depending on their performance in that particular unit of work and progress towards the specific key concepts taught.
Progress against flight paths is reported using our ‘BASE*’ system:
Beginning to work towards expected level
Approaching expected level
Securing expected level
Exceeding expected level
*= outstanding progress beyond expected level
Students are assessed against their own personal targets, which are derived from their KS2 or GCSE data. Parents will receive a termly assessment report communicating their child’s progress, an ‘attitude to learning’ grade and a ‘next steps comment,’ so they know how to improve. This will be issued to you electronically, via SIMS In Touch.
