Homework is an essential part of learning at secondary school. We use homework to get you to practise and revise the work that you have done in lesson, mainly on online platforms that give instant feedback about how well you have done. Teachers track whether you have completed this and this is checked both during tutor time and in lessons.

We set up to 5 hours a week homework in KS3 and up to 10 hours a week at KS4. At Key Stage 5, we expect students to complete at least 5 hours of independent study, per subject, per week. We do not set compulsory homework during school holidays.

On Thursdays, in KS3, homework is a unique literacy-based programme, created by your teachers at Saltash, called ‘Broad Horizons.’ It aims to do just that - broaden your knowledge of the world and its history, and introduce you to ideas, people, works of art and cultures that you might not otherwise encounter. We believe these are fundamental to your education as an informed and well-rounded member of society.

Each week you will explore a new idea. Your tutor will introduce this to you during Thursday registration, and it is a good idea to complete the relevant chapter in your booklet as homework that night. You will be expected to read an article, learn the vocab, answer some short questions and complete a piece of extended writing. Booklets can be found below:

In school, we offer various lunchtime clubs to support and encourage students to complete their homework. We also offer support before school, at Breakfast Club, and after school on set nights from 3-4pm.
