Component One:

Drama

Section A: A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams

Section B: Othello by William Shakespeare

Written exam: 2 ¼ hours

30% of the qualification.

Component Two:

Prose

A comparison of Dracula by Bram Stoker and The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde

Written exam: 1 ¼ hours.

20% of the qualification.

Component Three:

Poetry

Section A: An anthology of modern poetry with unseen comparison

Section B: An anthology of Victorian poetry

Written exam: 2 ¼ hours.

30% of the qualification.

Component Four:

NEA (Coursework)

Extended essay. A comparison of two texts of your choice, with teacher guidance.

Non-exam assessed.

2500 – 3500 words.

20% of the qualification.

Assessment:

Students complete weekly terminology tests to help them to manage the large amount of new knowledge within the A Level course. Students also complete midpoint assessments (usually a scaffolded exam question) and final assessments (an independent exam question).

Homework:

Study of ‘The Guardian’s’ poem of the week; essay writing skills; wider critical reading, and preparation for delivering presentations.
